SUMMER INTENSIVE FAQS

What is the age requirement for the Summer Ballet Program?

Students must be between the ages of 11 and 18 when the program begins on Monday, June 9. While 10-year-olds may audition in January, they must turn 11 by the start of the program.

What prior dance experience should I have for the Summer Ballet Program?

Summer Ballet Program is a rigorous program with a strong focus on classical ballet technique. Students train four-five hours per day five days of the week and should be able to healthily maintain this intensity.

Additionally, though we recognize that many of our younger students will be very new to pointe during auditions in January, all ladies must enter the program in June with pointe experience. (Starting pointe during the 2024-2025 school year is enough experience for a student to audition.)

Are photos/resumes needed for the audition process?

Yes. Beyond the information that is collected as a part of the audition registration process, we would need a picture in arabesque uploaded online.

What is the daily schedule?

Monday – Friday | 9:30am – 4:00pm

What does a typical day at the summer intensive look like?

The day begins with a ballet technique, pointe, or allegro class, followed by character or modern. After lunch, dancers take additional classes that vary by day and include contemporary, jazz, improvisation, modern, and other dance workshops. In addition to the daily technique classes, every dancer participates in of new choreography or repertoire. These pieces are shown on the final day in a showing for family and friends.

Teachers include members of the JCBS faculty as well as renowned guest artists.
